Newlywed sessions are the new engagement sessions. Just kidding, I really love engagement sessions more than anything, BUT, newlywed sessions are seriously rising in popularity and I am going to tell you 3 reasons why you should consider having one yourself! First, though we need to go over what exactly a newlywed session is.
A newlywed session is a session separate from your wedding day where you and your partner go out in your wedding gear and take portraits! These sessions are great opportunities to get more photos in your wedding gear, and to show off your creativity and showcase the things you love about your relationship. Wedding days are typically filled to the brim and don’t leave you with much time to get creative with your photographer. Having a separate newlywed session from your wedding day allows you and your photographer to get some time alone without the pressure of your wedding day to really let loose and enjoy yourselves while still in your wedding attire! A typical newlywed session lasts somewhere between 2-3 hours, but can sometimes last longer depending on where it takes place and the activities you include.
Wedding days FLY by. Between meeting and greeting all of your guests, the dance party, and getting ready, in many cases you are left with only 30 minutes or so for couples portraits. If your wedding day timeline is tight, opting for a newlywed session is a great option if you’re looking to get more photos in your wedding attire. Your wedding gear is some of the most beautiful attire you will probably wear in your life and really, you only get to wear it for one day. A newlywed session gives you more time and flexibility to document the two of you in your wedding gear. It also gives you more one on one time to celebrate this point you’ve reached in your lives as well as more time to spend with guests on your wedding day.
With the flexibility of having a newlywed session separate from your wedding day you truly get the best of both worlds. A day of celebrating your love with your closest friends and family all together, and a day adventuring with your photographer capturing exactly who you both are at this time in your lives. The flexibility of a newlywed session also allows you to take your wedding attire and your photos to locations that just aren’t possible for your wedding day.
Do you and your lover go on hikes together? Do you like to explore your local downtown or somewhere new? With a newlywed session, you can take your wedding attire anywhere which ends up giving your wedding portraits SUCH a unique and personal feel. Ali and Diana had their newlywed session exploring different Chicago locations like Ping Tom Memorial Park and the River Walk. Their wedding day was in the suburbs but the two wanted some newlywed photos in the Windy City, which is why they scheduled a newlywed session!
With the overwhelm that comes with planning a large event such as a wedding day with an extensive guest list, it can be hard to truly relax with your partner on your wedding day. Newlywed sessions give you the opportunity to plan out a day just for you, to relax and just enjoy your time with your partner. It puts less pressure on your wedding day then as you don’t need to focus as much on your wedding portraits, meaning you get to be more present and in the moment. You can focus on the experience of your wedding day and create memories that will last you a lifetime.
The combination of a wedding day and a newlywed session is such an epic way to celebrate your marriage. Being able to create exactly the kind of wedding day you envision while also having the flexibility to head out for an epic adventure in your wedding gear is an experience that is hard to beat! Being able to have your wedding one day followed by an adventure session where you and your lover hike a mountain, explore the Vegas strip or walk along the beach all while in your wedding gear is an experience I can’t recommend enough!
Newlywed sessions are SO much fun and create such a unique experience which is why I cannot recommend them enough.
